The greater Seaford community has taken a unified step to weave together the volunteer and not- for- profit groups who have been foot soldiers for the poor and struggling in their neighborhoods. Led by Susan Kent, Executive Director of Love, INC of Mid-Delmarva the Community Resource and Occupational Service Station (C.R.O.S.S) will soon open and have a home on King Street in Seaford.
Nanticoke Health Services, recognizing the need for more enhanced community services for the poor, is transferring ownership of its vacant property, formerly a print shop located on King Street, to C.R.O.S.S., through Love, INC Nanticoke is an important provider to many whom the C.R.O.S.S. project, Love INC already serve. “It is our mission and a part of our commitment to our community to help support those providing crucial services to our neighbors,” said Steve Rose, RN, MN, President and CEO of Nanticoke. “Our mission is to improve the health of the communities we serve. This includes helping vital organizations like LOVE, INC and SVdP Voice of the Poor with the important work they do. We are proud to help them with a new home for the C.R.O.S.S. program.”
Susan Kent adds “incredible change can happen when people with the right skills come together in a Christ-centered mission”. Sussex County Code Purple director, Nikki Gonzalez, emphasizes patience and compassion when she shares that “the people we serve are our family; we walk with them on their journey from despair and pain to accomplishment”.
The C.R.O.S.S. will provide Train-the-Trainer sessions on best practices, coordination of services such as housing, employment, healthcare, and special needs. In the works for sustainability are a commercial kitchen, a large garden, and laundry facilities. Group occupational training and mental health programs will be available. A portion of the building will provide shared office space to approved not-for-profit providers who are serving area individuals and families, such as Housing Alliance Delaware.
